  • Can I just use a USB hub instead of the USB headers on the board?

I got the D945GLF Intel motherboard and it has 4 USB ports plus a header on the board for 2 more. I'd rather just use a hub off of one of the other ports, would this overload anything? Does it make a difference if I use 4 USB devices in 4 different ports or 4 devices in a 1->4 hub?

The actual scenario would be this:
    - onboard USB 1 = Xenarc 700TSV touchscreen
    - onboard USB 2 = Holux 213U GPS receiver
    - onboard USB 3 = crappy Creative webcam (dashcam)
    - onboard USB 4 = 4 port hub for keyboard/flash drive/miscellaneous
    Ampie Case
    2.5" Hard Drive 80GB Samsung 5400RPM
    256 MB DDR2 PC5400
    Xenarc 700TSV - VGA Monitor

Like Enforcer said, some devices do not play nice w/ hubs.

Not to say you couldn't use it.

I currently have my touchscreen, kb, and usb extension on three MB usb ports and works out great with the hub on the fourth.

My wireless touchpad, usb radio, gps puck, & thumbdrive are running off my externally powered hub.
