  • RAM USB "tough" hub

    Insteresting.

Ram tough Hub, here's the specs:

    6 qty 5v Powered USB 2.0 Ports

    - 1 qty 10/100 MBPS Ethernet Port

    - Threaded power input for 12-48 VDC input

    - Materials used are Self Extinguishing

    - Strain Relief connection points

    - Ignition Trigger: The ignition trigger can be wired to the ignition of the
vehicle (or other 12V ignition source) to
provide a timed power shut off to the connected peripherals after the vehicle has been turned off. When the
vehicle ignition is switched to off, the RAM Tough-Hub continues to provide power to the connected peripherals
for a pre set duration of time. This unique RAM feature keeps your connected devices powered for quick vehicle
stops, avoiding any possible connectivity issues. The timed shut off can be preset for: 5, 15 and 45 minutes.
Retails for $95.00; or $10 more than mp3car.com powered hub. Plus the IGN trigger with timer.

Not sure if I'd use something this big, but maybe somebody would.

Only draw back I can see is on their spec sheet they list input voltage as 12-48V, might not survive engine crank, but then again it is designed for auto use. Clarification would be nice.
TruckPC - gutted, being used for test setup
BoatPC - All in 1 in cuddy, N7 using VNC on dash, RR
    BlazerPC - Nexus 7 with Timur's USBROM

Good point. If it works with 12V input *may* make it easier to connect to your DC-DC psu, because generally they have more headroom in the 12V rail than on the 5v.
