this is regarding security in relation to lcd visibility
id think it would be safe to assume that the more out of sight the lcd and computer are, the more safe your car will be from possible break ins
with this in mind ive been planning on getting an in dash lcd so that when the car is not in use the lcd can be safely tucked into the dash
ive found these are not easy to come by though
the few i have seen are not vga, only composite

what id like to know is what is your opinion on this
would you mount an lcd to the dash where its in plain sight and just risk it or would you play it safe?

i have a pretty good spot for a xenarc or the like to be mounted to be mounted i just dont know if its gonna be safe

mine is kind of mounted to the dash. I can remove it easily and hide it hunder a seat if needed. I did my setup so everything can be hidden or removed easily

Yeah, Id definately put it out of sight, if you could make it removable that would be better.

I want to get the In-Dash Myself, and my plan is, if I can figure out a good way to do it....I would like to make some kind of steel plate that is lockable that will cover the headunit and the LCD when I put the truck up for the night.

the other option is to make a fake facia out of an old headunit. ie. cut the front of an old headunit, stick all the buttons back on (etc) and make it so can sit infront of your lcd panel concealing it.

Did the faceplate hack on my previous car.. when they broke in and took my radio. turned out very nice.. was only a faceplate of an old Philips radio with only a tuner, no cassette or cd.. IF I would do that to my current car, no one would believe it I think.. the radio is at least 10 years older than the car.....

But yeah.. when they took my headunit, I began thinking, I wanted everything to be out off sight, or removable.. I couldnīt make everything out off sight, so I put my char.lcd, keyboard controller and 11 buttons in a small enclosure with a nice parallel connector on it which runs everything (lcd, power and keyboard) this way, the lcd is removable.. so if one looked into the car, he wouldnīt see anything... when heīs lucky, he might see the connector... maybe I post some pics when I clean everything up.. itīs a mess right now..

(The lcd actually is very nice. 4,8m cable. one side has the connector to the lcd-case, other side has the parallel and the keyboard connector. This way I can actually hook it up to almost every computer..... hehehe.... actually.. i gotta sell these things as a kit.. hahahahah)
