  • ByByte black box enclosure and a nettop?

    Hi everyone,
Has anyone tried using a black box enclosure with a nettop taken out of the box?
    As an example, let's take
Foxconn NT-330I-A-B-NA-A NVIDIA ION Black Barebone Systems
    (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16856119016)

    Dimensions: 7.48" x 5.31" x 0.98"

Clearly, it's not using a Mini-ITX board but something of a custom size. I'm wondering if I can take the MoBo out of this unit and put it in the black box. My car (Toyota Yaris 4door) has a pretty deep double din depth, so if anything, i can remove the backing from the black box and accomodate for an extra half inch.

This nettop goes for under $200 and provides much better performance at a lower price than VIA mobos. So... is this project viable?

You will probably get off cheaper just buying a miniITX ION-based motherboard instead of the nettop, especially if you shop for deals on the components.
Why try to reinvent the wheel, ya know?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

I want to make it an all-in-one system. Mini-ITX will definitely not fit into a black box and would like to have all of the components inside the black box (except for maybe the radio). The mobo inside this nettop is too long on one side but narrow enough on the other, so I can just cut the back of the black box and make the exhaust part of the mobo stick out a bit.

There are a couple dual-core atom (D510/525) nano-ITX form factor boards out in the wild (I've been looking for a vendor that has the bcm nx510d, since they only do OEM-sized orders themselves) that will fit the bybyte double DIN box. they will stream 1080p with no issues (especially the D525 w/ ddr3 memory).

If you can wait until Dec/Jan, Zacate nanoITX boards might be out

Those nano-itx boards are around $650 for no reason other than low production volume due to low demand. I understand that there's extra price to pay for small size, but I think $650 is prohibitively expensive. I guess I'll keep waiting for Zacate-based boards, but remember that Nvidia ION prototype was Pico-ITX, but no actual Pico-ITX boards have been released. Still, here's hoping one of those MoBo manufacturers will step up. My money would be on Zotac -they released first ION boards.
