  • Help, Windows Error

    HI Guys,

All was working fine. Went out to the car a couple of hours later, start the car, try to boot the car puter, no go. This is what I get.

The computer BIOS does it's thing. I get the Windows Splash screen (now I have to choose either safe mode or normal boot because of the bad boots that have occured), then the splash screen again, and then, the Black Screen of Death, with the following written exactly like this,

    While initializing device VKD:
Windows Protection Error. You need to restart your computer.

    Press any key to continue.

When I press any key, the computer shuts down.

HELP, what can I do. What is Device VKD. Can I determine which device is having issues easily??

    Any help, Please.

    Michael

I remember this from a long time ago. Seems to be you deleted/renamed smartdrv.exe to prevent windows from loading the old 16bit drive chachine progream as it would confilct with the 32bit one present since 95osr2

        Thanx for the help

I will try a different keyboard. I hope that works, and will let you know.

          Nope, No Dice. Didn't work.

I then checked the connection at the MB, and it looks like it might be bad. I could probably solder the connection, too make sure they are good, but I need a quick fix. Does anyone think that a USB keyboard might solve the problem. I guess I can always just pick one up and test it, but I was hoping someone might chime in if he knows it WON't make a difference.

          Thanx

Can you disable your keyboard in BIOS? Id try that before dropping $30 or so on a usb keyboard just to test it.

I looked, but didn't see anything like that in the BIOS.

Also, isn't it a windows issue, so will changing the BIOS to not look for the KB change whether windows attempt to INIT it.

              Thanx
              Michael

Also, 30 dollars aint bad, if it will work, and if it doesn't, I can return it.
