  • Generic Ebay 'Chinese' Carputer - Problem

    Hi Guys,
I bought a new car recently and it came with a Generic Ebay 'Chinese' Carputer installed. I spoke to the seller and he has no other details than that on it.
It runs win ce i think and has bluetooth, gps, cd, ipod dock on it...
Its fine i suppose, a bit plasticy though.

Im having a few prob's with it.
On starting the car every morning the carputer switches itself on and off every few seconds. Incredibly annoying...

Does anyone have any idea's on how to fix this?
It doesnt seem very easy to remove it.
I was thinking about taking it out and running it off 12vdc in the house just to ensure its not a car power supply problem

    Anything else?
    Thanks!

Taking it out to troubleshoot is your only option that will yield any results.
Be prepared to take the unit apart.
    Have a multimeter handy.

Understand that it would be impossible to troubleshoot this on a forum. Nobody knows anything about the hardware used for your unit and there are dozens (if not more) cheap double-DIN PCs out of China.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

I'll take it out tomorrow and see if it will work in the house...

i'm not even sure if it's worth trouble shooting-- it is super cheap, so even if you do determine what is wrong with it, it's probably not worth repairing(though i understand wanting to tear it apart to look inside)..

my cousin got a quote once from a electronics repair place to fix a faulty resistor on his cd changer-- they charged something like a minimum of $180 US just to look at it, plus a hourly rate to repair..

it might be better to consider replacing it with either a name brand headunit, or better quality carpc components..

for carpc's, i am a big fan of diy, i have not been convinced that any of the prebuilt units have enough support to allow trouble free usage(though i am open to changing this, should someone start offering support for their all-in-one's..)

for standard hu's, i have always had very good luck with pioneers, but the best thing to do is to go to a car audio store and try out the different brands and see what you like. i would expect to pay around $180US for a decent am/fm/cd/mp3 radio..
