  • Built in FRS.

Sorry if this is a repost.
Has anybody built a FRS (Family Radio Service Walkee Talkie) in to their car? I would like to set one up wit a shifter button so I can talk on the radio during spirited driving. I took apart the 2 different radios that I have and don't see any easy way to set this up. Any Ideas? Radios with real buttons?

**** FRS, unless you hook it up to a linear amp, the range is crap. And I've never seen anyone hook one up to an amp.

If I can get 2000 feet out of it I'm happy. It's only to go from 1 car to another, which I've always been happy with. I just don' want to hold it while driving, Computing, navagating, talking to passangers, answering the phone and anything else that comes up.

Well inside it should have a microphone, extend the wires or attach another one and place it where you want it.

It should also have a momentary switch for transmit/talk. Possibly could be membrane switch, which makes it a little harder. Extend the switch to where you want it.

If you want the speaker to output to your stereo system, that takes a little more work. A standalone small amplifier like one out of cheap computer speakers might be better for that.

or get a amatuer radio and mod it. but that would be illegal, better yet a cb with a amp. Still illegal but more distance!

As I stand now both of my radios have the membrane style switches+ mics on the board. I guess I will have to learn to solder really good. I like FRS because I have at 6 of them and I can give one to each person I'm traveling with without worrying about losing a radio.
