  • android unlocking and starting car

So i have a project for school in which we are going to use a microcontroller to wirelessly connect to an android phone and read the obdII and hopefully write to the obdII. I can read but have yet to find information on writing.

The system will also unlock car start car and roll down windows. What i would like to know is:

If i where to take 12v and put it to the wire that controls the locking of my car would the car lock? and the same with unlocking and starting? so in other words all i would have to do is tap those wires and tell the micro controller to send a 12v output when a signal is recieved? Or is that just too simple and im way off??

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

obd-ii is an information (heh, diagnostic if you weill) bus, not something that you would write to. You may be able to push messages on the CAN-bus however. Many obd-ii scantools support reading and writing to the CAN bus. I know that on recent GM vehicles, you can send GMLAN messages to start the car and unlock doors among other things.

Well what about the actual hard wires in the car? if i tap a 12 volt to the wire for unlocking the car will the car unlock?

You can always do it the manual way hooking up relays and such.

it depends on the car. some are negatively switched, and others use a vacuum pump
