  • possible carpurter setup?

    i have a toshiba 2590 cdt
    - 64 ram
    - 6.4 gigs
    - celeron 400 mhz
    - windows 98

    in-dash lcd screen
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=32826

    possible scan converter
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...gory=3697&rd=1

    possible power adapter
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ory=42167&rd=1

    1. need a way to connect the laptop to the rca plugs in the back of the indash lcd screen. or would a fm mod be better? i'd prefer the one with higher quality.

    2. would it be probable to make this voice controlled and with the aid of a trackball?

    2. would the car adapter be suitable for the laptop or would it be better to connect it directly to the battery in some way?

    3. i could just connect the scan converter directly to the battery right?

    4. should i take the screen off the laptop when i place it in the car?

in the future i plan on getting an external dvd drive and placing it in the glove compartment or above the in-dash reciever. is there anything i'm really missing here or would this project at least work descent?

Not a bad price on that screen, but it's 5
inches, kind of small for a carputer...
But it may work for you.

    To the questions:

    1. line out or headphones of laptop miniplug to rca adapter. Can get anywhere.

    2. Voice control is ****ty in car, especially with a computer this low on processing power. So NO.

    3. NO! it says it takes 7.5 volts. Yo will need to get a regulator. Get one at wal-mart that plugs into the cigarette lighter, and then hack the cig plug and connect to car electrical.

    4. Leave the screen on, what would be the point of taking it off ?

the screen is very very small. I think you would appreciate 7" or more. If that scan converter really does work then go for it. And sound, I would also try the headphone jack. And you dont need to take the screen off the notebook, just run a switch somehow. You can wire your car adapter directly into the 12v in your car.
        Mine needs to be updated.

i was gonna take the screen off cause i keep hearing that laptop lcd get damaged from the heat, so to prevent that, i was just gonna take it off completely. in case i ever need it.

where can i find out how to rig the car adapter directly to the battery?

around how much can i get an in-dash 7" lcd with am/fm tuner, and what about an in-dash 7" w/o the tuner?
