  • "No sync" what thee f!

So I finally get around to putting my carputer in my car, after many delays. All the wiring's done, everything ready to go, but I've run into a bit of an issue.

All of the power, ground, ignition, etc are hooked up 100% - the M2-ATX fires up, CPU fan starts spinning, and the 'power' led on my carpc lights up. BUT after connecting my VGA, my lcd begins to oscillate back and forth between 'no sync' and a blank screen, every few seconds, like clockwork. Basically there is no image... prior to this, however, my screen would begin the whole BIOS process and promptly reboot about 4-5 seconds later with no error message, BSOD, etc, but now I'm left with nothing to work with...

My RAM is seated, the grounds look good, power and ignition are all hooked up, but no dice... I know the screen is fine because when plugging in my laptop, to the VGA, everything works swimmingly.

Has anyone had this issue and what steps should I take to rectify it?

Is the car running during these tests or not running but key on?

How are you powering your screen? Cigarette lighter, 12v from the fusebox, or from the m2-atx?

The screen gets 12v from the M2-ATX, and is grounded to the chassis near the dash.

I've tried both ways, with equal results.

Nope, this is the only screen that I have access to. It worked with my laptop, though, so the issue must be with the hardware. Further, for some reason the HDD LED indicator no longer blinks, for some odd reason, like it did before, but the power led is a steady green.

what model number are all your parts?

if you have a ps2 port, plug in a ps2 keyboard and see if you can control the NUM LOCK light. if you can turn it on/off pressing the key, then the hardware is fine(indicates the memory and processor are working correctly) and it is a screen issue.

The screen is fine... it's a h/w issue for sure.

Update: went out to the car and let the pc warm up for a bit. felt the wires and noticed that the 12v to the m2atx was becoming very hot after idle use. upgraded the wiring to a 4ga and all is well!
