  • Having problems running audio from my Shuttle to my amp

First off I'll just say Hi, this is my first post here at mp3car. I'm a regular over at 3si.org, but for the really technical electrical questions I always search this board for answers. For this extremely complicated question I could find none simply by searching, so I figured I'd take the time to register and post the question myself...well...Hello again.

My car computer setup is a Shuttle computer running a 1.8 ghz p4, a geforce 4 mx440 (got it for really cheap), dvd drive, 80 gig HD, and an old Sound Blaster Live card circa 4-5 years ago. If you couldn't tell, the Shuttle has one PCI and one AGP slot, as it might matter in my next question if bad turns to worse.

My LCD (7.2" TFT Pyramid: I know, I'm a cheap skate) has not arrived yet--supposed to be delivered this Friday. So as I'm testing stuff out on the shuttle while it's in the car (powered by a 700 watt inverter) I just dragged my computer monitor out there in case I needed video. Anyways, here is my problem. I figured I would hook up the sound/audio portion of the project before the LCD came to lessen the blow of putting everything together at the same time. So I hooked up the monitor to the shuttle etc etc. Now herein lies my problem. I am running one amplifier in the car, aftermarket (installed before I bought the car). It's a very old Zapco, like a 75 watt or something. but I digress. I need to run sound from the computer through the amp to (duh) generate sound out of the car speakers. I obviously have to connect the front left, front right, rear L and rear R to the sound card (SB Live) somehow, but I am not totally clear how to. I bought an RCA --> Mono adapter to just test to the Front L and Front R to see if the setup worked at all. So I plugged the adapter into the RCA cables. Now, I am not totally sure which "hole" on my SB Live is audio out. (They are color coded if anyone could point me in the right direction). I AM NOT using the stereo deck in this setup at all. It is not in the equation, so any solution involving it shouldn't even be given. The problem is I plugged in the Front L and Front R (which are connected to a single rca --> mono adapter, shaped like a Y) into every single port of the SB Live, to no avail. Every plug I put the adapter into resulted in a massive and odd wave of static. Since my amp was wired to my deck to come on when the deck came on (so as not to sap power when the car was off) I had to wire the amp to my computer to only come on when the computer was turned on. I don't know what the problem is with the audio, and frankly it's frustrating the hell out of me. Is there a simple solution to my problem, or is there any easier way to go about doing this setup? Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this horridly long post!

OMG you question is makes no sense at all. Be a lil more direct and keep the stories short.

i think your problem is you have a mono adapter in a stereo output.

I to run a shuttle pc in my car.

      Check it out

First of all, you don't use a mono to rca adapter.

you need stereo 1/8" minijack to stereo RCA adapters
