      your research is sound.

just curious why you want 8 GB ram

if you want to avoid forum frustration in the future, dont open a new thread for every question, try to stick to a single thread

i probably don't need 8gb but was smallest size i could find in the super low profile for case airflow. i do wonder if the extra $25 for 16gb of super low profile ram would be wise. as for i3 i was looking for low power and high intel gpu. it has a hd 4600 on that chip and is only 55w.

i also sorry for multiple posts. i found a old post i had forgotten about. to make it simpler i abandoned those 2 threads for this one.

but my build concept is to put touchscreen on windshield suction cup mount. the pc i want use the voom2 case because it has a disk drive option so i could watch blu ray when parked working security. i chose motherboard mainly for the built in wifi and bt. i would use a aux in adapter on existing radio for sound and control am/fm/hd/sirius/nav/backup all threw the carputer.

i also wanted to make sure i could mount it in ether vehicle depending if my mechanic can help me. see my mechanic trying to find me a ford excursion 4x4 power stroke diesel. there are smaller suv's but need a hd suspension so i wouldn't be repairing from carrying my wheelchair in back. that limits my options a lot because of size and weight of my power wheelchair. there was Yukon XL and suburban options too. but they have gas engines and would suffer in mpg. diesel gets better mpg and excursion is one the few vehicles that fit all my needs. plus i am a ford girl, heck my first car was a 87 taurus. My Dream Vehicle is made by Custom Autos by Tim and having hm build me a 2014 6 door excursion out of a 2014 ford f350 platinum super duty. but only way ill ever afford a brand new 100K suv is if i win the lottery, LOL.

i hope this post clears up a lot my decision making in my research.

Edit: Can someone recommend a good wireless keyboard/trackpad for entering text? im looking at possibly geting "Hausbell (TM) Mini H7 2.4GHz Wireless Entertainment Keyboard with Touchpad for PC, Pad, Andriod TV Box, Google TV Box, Xbox360, PS3 & HTPC/IPTV" or "Favi FE01-BL Mini Wireless Keyboard with Mouse Touchpad - Black"

also i was wondering out of curiosity if it would be hard to get a intel nuc "Intel® NUC Kit D54250WYK" power up with the car. i know i would need a CarNetix CNX-P2140 185W Dual Output Intelligent DC-DC Regulator, but to conect it to the nuc would the 12v-24v Computer Quick Release Power Cable Kit M2-MTR-5-PWR or CarNetix CNX-CA-XSC4 to power it up? if i go nuc rout want be able to power t in the house and car.

as for a keyboard, try to find a keyboard that has its own bt dongle , I have a keyboard that connects through bluesoleil but when RR freezes , or anything else goes wrong I cant always connect it.

As for RAM, the more ram you use, the longer your pc takes to go into hibernate and wake up out of hibernate, the contents of your ram are written to the harddrive when your pc goes into hibernate, and has to read that data and write it to ram when your pc resumes, the more data , the longer it takes.

as for the Intel stuff, I am an amd guy so I will leave that question to others to answer.

            hope that helps you

I'm not a huge fan of the tiny keyboards. I want my eyes on the screen, not on the keyboard. What about these?
              Logitech Wireless Touch Keyboard K400
Adesso SlimTouch Wireless 2.4 GHz RF Mini Touchpad Keyboard
Adesso Wireless SlimTouch Ergo Touchpad Keyboard
              SIIG Wireless Multi-Touchpad Mini Keyboard

I've got one similar to these. Of course, this is all just a matter of opinion.

I can't really speak for the NUC. It sounds like your vehicle is going to have a lot of room in it, so you probably don't need to limit yourself to a tiny PC. But I do understand that you want to be able to take it into the house, and back to the car. Have you considered a Windows tablet? If you aren't going to be connecting a bunch of crazy devices to it, this might be a simple solution. Some have HDMI output so you can connect to a larger screen in the car if you want to.

EDIT: The keyboards I listed are all wireless RF (not bluetooth), so they should work just like any USB keyboard.

reason for a keyboard is like if i'm working security and i want go in a chat room instead staring into the darkness. or writing a email or doing my report so i can print it out. i'm thinking the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse T630 for Windows 8 Touch Gestures (910-003825) & Logitech Bluetooth Illuminated Keyboard K810 for PCs, Tablets, Smartphones - Black (920-004292) would be good for those needs and use same dongle as the ScanTool 426101 OBDLink MX Bluetooth/OBD-II Scan Tool Interface. or should i consider logitech's 2.4ghz dongle to power keyboard/trackpad. ill be using win7 64bit ultimate because its not on anything right now and will save me cost of a os.
i was thinking of doing a dedicated switch and powering to dual cig power points to power monitor and a 200w inverter so i can run a nuc and printer. but i may just get a mac mini that pulls 85 watts but then i cant run centerfuse like if i did a Intel® NUC Kit D54250WYK when it releases. just need to compare apples to oranges i suppose but all my music on itunes anyways so would be easy to use itunes as a media player.

i know with windows/centerfuse i can have am/fm/hd/sirius/itunes library/nav/printer ect. with mac ill have itunes/printer/and my preferred os.

I use a Logitech dinovo http://www.logitech.com/en-ca/suppor...osid=13&bit=32 it's small and lighted but missing F keys which is sometimes useful. I have found this unit works very good, http://www.visiontek.com/candyboard-rf.html I have them in the 55 trucks of my client. No complaints from drivers and they are a crusty bunch. SNO

that CandyBoard RF u mentioned looks very nice. guess i should explain why i was looking at the board above. i was thinking i could use in care or home. multipurpose as the pc. i just thought something i feel dumb about though. was trying to find a universal power brick for keeping in the car. then it dawned on me just buy a second mickey mouse plug and carty the power brick out with my nuc. feel kind of dumb lol.

if anyone interested in seeing my parts list i have a amazon wishlist dedicated to this. the nuc isn't in it because the new haswell with hd5000 gpu hasn't released yet i don't think.

You may find a 7" screen to be too small for you. 7" screens are popular with people that replace their radios because they fit into a double din slot easily.

If you are going to mount this otherwise you may want to look at a 10" or 12" screen. Bigger is easier to read.

If all else fails and you have room for it you might be better off just installing a laptop mount into your vehicle and mounting a laptop. Easy to remove and there are cigarette lighter hookups available for most laptops. You can also get mounts that allow you to make it difficult to remove the laptop as well.

All depends on what you want to do. Your cheapest way to go and easiest to upgrade later would be an in car laptop mount.

i like the Lilliput 12.1" but it is open frame. i want a closed frame. was looking at 7" because i can add a suction cup mount. i know go joto msakes a 04-05 excursion mount but dopnt know if will work with older excursions

the open frame stuff is the full monitor with the case removed. You should be able to find the monitor easy on ebay or something.

I am sure you can find a mount that will work. They have universal ones available too if you need them. You can always fabricate brackets to match up one if it doesn't fit 100%

best i can find is a "Lilliput 10.1" Fa1011-np/c/t VGA LED Touch Monitor with Hdmi&dvi Input by VIVITEQ INC". i was looking at the 7" with suction cup becase thought i could put on winshied drivers corneer or center with out obstructing my view. i'm hoping to mount in a excursion but if i cant get one i will be driving a 1971 ford f250. dash is made for post so u can see why i cant do a indash setup. plus i wouldn't know how to control volume to a amp install.

Looks like a great CarPC Setup!

                              Good day!

I went over your wish list; I must admit, you did your homework!
Especially on your choice of HDMI cable; you are going to need something shielded and very-VERY long to do what you need it to.
As far as the keyboard, I recommend this unit, which not only includes it's own mouse/trackpad, but it's $8 cheaper than the bluetooth keyboard you are interested in. You'll say, "Oh, it's RF/USB" and what not, but depending on how you setup your unit, this may work a bit better!

I'm also curious as to how you plan to set up this unit in your Montana. From the looks of this stock unit, you probably can fabricate a 10.1" HDMI LED screen and set it up in front of the stock head unit! I figure $50-$75 for the screen, $40 for the LCD controller (both found on eBay), and if you can fabricate the housing yourself, you can spend up to $200 tops for a screen with suction cup that will match the Montana! It's just a thought.

Best of luck, and let us know how it goes!!
