  • Looking for a case...

Long time lurker, first time poster...

Anyway, I am finally getting underway with my project and I'm searching for a case with the following features:

    Accomidate Mini-ITX EPIA-M10000
    3.5" HDD mount
No CD-ROM or FDD bay necessary (The drive will be slot-loading in-dash connected via firewire)

    And the hard part:

*As many PCI slots as possible (Are there any cases with 3+?)
*No Power Supply (I'm going to use 150W Opus, so if the case will hold it internally, that would be ideal - i hate to pay for a case's built-in supply when i'm never going to use it!)

Finally, size is not really a concern. I have a good amount of room in the trunk where a CD-Changer and nav system might normally go in a car with those options. Really the ideal case would be a much thicker version of the Casetronics 2966R with a 3-PCI riser card (or heck; even a 2-PCI card!). I am thinking that the type of slot on the mini-itx boards may be limiting the number of PCI cards on a riser, but I thought there would be no harm in asking.

I did find this case, but I can't find a vendor with actual meaningful specs. The lillicomputers site doesn't even show the dimensions!

Thanks for the links! I settled on the Travla C137... It's the only case I found with two PCI slots.. It's a little on the expensive side (almost twice as much as some cases), but it looks beefy, industrial, and black. Plus it is very close in size to the OEM cd player, so I should be able to mount it without truble. Also, the opus PSU I ordered will fit inside it.

      Here's some data: http://www.casetronic.com/Product/PCcase/C137/c137.html

For those of you who are curious, Mini-ITX boards, I found out are pretty much limited to a max of two PCI slots because the riser card itself plugs into a PCI slot.. It's not really like some of those flexATX and proprietary motherboards that have a special slot (with more IRQ lines and whatnot) than a regular PCI slot. Anyway, a board with more than 2 PCI capability would have to have a special riser card, not to mention a special case. I doubt it's happening soon. Anyway, Wireless NIC and TV/FM tuner were on my must have list for this project, so that can now be satisfied.

It is also almost impossible (as far as I could see) to buy an ITX case with no power supply. All the manufacturers said they could sell them like this in quantity (and the prices I was quoted w/o power supplies were VERY good btw) but ... i don't really have a need for 100 cases. I wish some retailer would pick up on the car market a bit with CPU cases and sell chassis with built-in opus supply and some shock mounts ready to go...
