  • Dash Head Unit with surround inputs...

Does anyone know if these exist? I want to hook my carputer (Epia M10000 with 5.1 sound) directly to the auxiliary input of a CD player so that it will amplify the sound for me. But I have only been able to find head units with stereo inputs. Are there any with four or more independent inputs (FR, FL, RR, RL)? I already have the center channel taken care of.

Why? I do have an 6-ch amp if I need to use it, but then I would have to make a manual switch for the speakers to go from head unit to computer. If I could find a HU that would accept line level surround sound, I would be set!

As I am in the process of building my carputer system, I have come across this idea. I just got a Clarion Head Unit (DXZ835MP) that has an aux input, as well as a C-Net interface. If you purchase their Add on processor, it gives you 2 optical digital inputs as well as DD 5.1, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II processing before it send it thru the outputs. My current issue is in transforming the SPDIF out from my M10000 Nehemiah from coax to optical without using a powered adapter. If anyone knows where I can find one, please let me know. My only other option is to use a USB Sound card that has an optical out, but I'd rather not unless its my ONLY choice. As for the add on processor, the one described above costs nearly 400 bux. However, you can find last years model which doesnt have the DD, DTS, or ProLogic but DOES have the 2 optical inputs on clearance HERE for 89 bux...

Those have stereo inputs and internally process it to 5.1. I wanted to use surround out from my Epia because the center channel was going to be my GPS voice navigation. That way, if I am listening to just my HU, the center channel would still be connected to my Epia. If I use stereo out from my Epia to the 5.1 player, I will lose the center channel (I think, but I will check for sure). I guess they don't make HUs with separate channel inputs....dang
