A powered USB hub should let you power everything just fine. Most of them run off 5volts. Make sure you have clean power for this 5 volts because it goes right out to your devices with little to no conditioning. If it surges, you'll fry everything on the hub and possibly your computer too.

running it off an inverter would not be a good idea would it?

if you have a good power inverter, it would be better than just running it with a DC stepdown power supply. the power inverter is less likely to surge than straight through the car's electrical system.

If you use an inveter you should be more then fine. It will give you 2 levels of protection. The inveter itself, And then the wall wart that steps the power down to 5V DC. I wouldn't worry at all if you did it that way. The only thing is that using that sort of setup, you might get interference in your stereo system.
