  • Mini itx The real deal?

Ok, ive been reading up a bunch of reviews of the mini itx boards, pondering if i really should go that route for my carpc. Im just finding a lot of the reviews hard to believe.
" embedded MPEG-2 decoder for silky smooth DVD playback, and integrated 2D/3D graphics for a rich multimedia experience."

with all the post here about people having problems playing movies at all, it makes me wonder. I know the 2D/3D performance is crap and dont need a review to tell me that, the specs tell you that alone.

So... for all you guys that do have itx boards, lets here some opinions on the real world performance of these boards. Specificly the Nehemiah chip, as this is best offering. Are the DVD problems people are having just isolated issues or is there really a performance issue playing movies on these things. How bad is the 2d/3D? I dont really expect much from that part of the system but would like to know exactly what it can and cant do. Do the via chips have mmx or any intel instructions on them?

    Thanks

I have an M9000, that's based on the Eden processor. (not nehemiah proc.). DivX playback is accpetable, my computer crashes whenever I try to play mpeg 2 (I believe it's just bad drivers and since I don't have any significant mpeg2 files, i don't care). The DVD playback is finicky, adjusting interlace settings in WinDVD makes for acceptable playback. Also as a note, my DVD drive is only 8x. (To all those that say "dvd is mpeg2" it only crashes on mpeg2 encoded files, not DVD's)
My Carputer! (More Car Pics at the end)
    2 Kicker Comp 10"
Epia M-9000, 256 MB DDR, 120 Gig HD
    Lilliput 7" VGA Touchscreen
    Check it out?!

I have an Epia 10000 (Ezra core unfortunately) and I have not had any problems with DVD playback, the picture is smooth, the only time there is choppiness (is that a word?) is the first 3-4 seconds I start playing a DVD and I think that is just to fill the buffer. I use WinDVD 4.0 software. My epia can play Divx movies smoothly at medium video quality but if I set for maximum video quality the playback will be very choppy. It's my understanding that the Nehemiah core will have more horsepower for Divx playback.

        thanks guys,
seems the DVD on the Nehemiah is pretty much ok, if they could get an embeded geforce card the boards would rock.

Completely defeats the design purpose of Epia boards

I have a ATI AIW card on my Nehemiah board...tried a Geforce2, but it wouldn't boot up in time for the mobo to see it.

                  I get silky smooth divx/dvd/whatever.

I can game...but it is only tolerable.
