  • good keypads?

Where can I find a good ps/2 keypad at a low price? All the keypads I've seen so far have been in the >$30 price range. I can get an entire keyboard for less than that!

    thanks in advance

"black minikeyboards they make for laptops with the mouse pointer embeded in them. "

you wouldn't happen to have a manufacturer name for those keypads?

I got my keypad for $5 from some place on pricewatch.com. Can't get much cheaper than that. With a ps/2 -> AT adapter it was only $10 total w/ shipping.

Thanks for the info. I had searched on pricewatch earlier, but for some reason the cheaper keypads didn't show up.

            the keypads I found were

            $5 AST NUMBERIC KEYPAD F/ASCENTIA
            $9 COMPAQ KEYPAD

I'm not sure if these use a ps/2 style connector or not - I'm going to call the seller to find out.

Another solution for the people who want a nice looking custom keypad is take the modulator out of a keyboard. I had gotten two keyboards for free on rebate, and decided to use one of the modulators from it. It works like a charm. Map which pin combinations does what, then either make a simple PCB running to the pins you need or just write then together and put some mini tact or soft switches in between the routes, and you have yourself your own keypad.
I was originally going to use this for my player and custom mount the buttons below the headunit, but I may just get a cheap keypad and put it on the console or go with the Palm Pilot idea. Not sure yet.

Do you have a web page explaining how to take appart and remap a keyboard?

Office Max sells a keypad made by PC Concepts for $29.99. It's marked as an external keypad for a laptop.

For German Members. You can look on www.tastaturen.com. They are selling quite a lot different keypads from 37,-DM up.
