  • DVD on-road test

Some of you in #mp3car asked me about DVD on the road. Well, I finally got it installed and tested it on the road. I took it nice drive on back roads (with fairly decent sized potholes) watching (well, ok I wasn't watching, but my friend was) half-baked going about 35-45Mph with absolutely no problems. My DVD drive is mounted in the passenger side behind a "false floor" wall using only two "L" brackets. Even though it doesn't need it, just for testing purposes I used a 36" long IDE cable. It's a nearly 4 year old 6x dvd-rom that came with a compaq I bought a while back. Like I said, everything works great. Just thought I'd let you guys in on how it went incase you plan to do a indash DVD type install.

ummm is that all u were going....Try going over 120mph it better work...mine does
Also a good test is to take it through Washington DC. If it survives there then u are ok. Same goes for the box.

I don't get to the race track as often as you might, so going 120MPH isn't going to be happening anytime soon. If my car even goes that fast! lol But I live in Altoona, PA where the some of the roads are as bad as DC. My system holds up pretty well.

That's a real thrill for you guys over there isn't. While here overseas I've droven up to 295 Km/h (185 MPH). Okay, I admit. It's on my GSX-R 750 motor cycle.

I sometimes sit on the passengers-seat of my uncle's car (Audi RS-4, bi-turbo, quattro, no limitations)

And that thing goes over 205 mp/h or 325 km/h. (you really think you're gonna be sick!)

And like a month ago (while driving 312 km/h , this was checked by the mechanic who repaired the car, and was reading the last statistics of the car before it blew) one of the turbo's blewwed-up.... that's a pitty...
While it's back on the road now, he has limited it to 290 km/h.. (still enough to get by bmw's, mercedes' and porsches)..

Most fun part of the car...
            It's a stationwagon with 2 baby-seats on the backseat!

PS.. happy that we live near germany -> Autobahn!

ok maybe i haven't looked into the Audi's that much. I do know that they make turbo and twin turbo, but i kind of find this hard to believe that that 4 door or maybe this one is two do will really do 205mph. Please give me a URL to look this car up. Also how much is this puppy compared to a Vette or Viper or even a saleen mustang ?

                Charles..
I have to say that this isn't a stock RS4
He has done some chiptuning on it.. (for even more power.. this guy is a bit crazy)

And the factory limited the car at 250 km/h (like any german manufacturer does..) (he has the limiter removed of course)

Although I couldn't find a url that quick I managed to dig up some info from the company he leases the car from.

                'Stock RS-4'
                2.7 Liter V6 / 30v
                280 kW (380 hp) @ 6.500 rpm
                445nm from 2.500 and up,
                double turbo, double adjustable camshafts.

I searched for some more info, but the things that come up are 'almost' all german. (which I think you can't read, but I could be wrong of course..)
Anyway.. It's a fun car, but to damn fast for me... (driving a good ol' slow but trusty diesel.. hehehe).. and B.T.W. way to expensive

It is a very, very nice car. 380hp, 0-100km in 4.9 seconds, and yes, a wagon. About $85,000 US I think when new. According to a story published August 6, 2001, only 6030 weremade and production has now been stopped. Some english links:

Australian reviews, etc. Type in "rs4" in upper right hand to get articles.
