  • Sound card Questions

I need a 24Bit Sound card with a single output, I was going to get 6.1 or 7.1 output and use a line driver but I want to use my Pioneer DEQ-9200 as a DSP unit (plus its remote and can adjust the volume)

Need opinions from people here, I was thinking an SB live and setting it to 2 speaker or maybe an audlogy 2 but would like some input from people running one already before I plop down money.

no the sblive is onlu 16bit.. in your case i'd get the audigy. Its like i can't tell the difference between DTS and DD on my home theater.. but on my friends $10k setup I can and DTS sounds a lot better.

I would recomend either an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 or the SB Audigy 2 ZS. Both can be had for under $100. They both sound great, have a SNR >107dB, and have 7.1 output. Although the Audigy line of cards are the only ones that do DVD audio decoding.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS in the carputer and an Audigy 2 in my home system. I love them both. I have not tried the Revolution card but I have heard it is top notch for music compared to the Audigy 2.

Oh BTW Hijinks...I believe you have my stapler...?

With the M-audio or the Creative do I have control over the volume of all channles ??? ie can I turn down the sub or up the center or would I still need a hu of somesort to do it..

Would I need a line driver to go between the Amps and the sound card outputs ?

(for Some strange reason I need to turn the SUB volume down on a lot of my music, not sure why heheheh)

The Audigy 2 is the first card from Creative to be truly 24 bit throughout the audio rendering process. The gen 1 version (Audigy) had problems with hogging the PCI bus, so don't snag that one. Generation 2 Audigys resolved the PCI problem, but were not true 24 bit. They ramped the output up to 24bit AFTER processing. Audigy 2 processes in 24 bit. Individual channel volume controls I *believe* are provided via the Windows drivers, but that can be verified through Creative themselves. The Audigy 2 ZS is the latest and greatest card, but in all honesty, the ZS isn't needed, as it simply adds 7.1 surround support, versus the Audigy 2's 6.1.
