  • Weird Problem...

Well My carputer stopped working yesterday. When I boot up, it shows the screen that first comes up (the one where it checks for IDE devices) for like a second, then it goes blank for a few seconds, then another loading screen comes on and windows 98 starting screen, then the screen just goes blank. I take the computer inside and plug it into the monitor inside and it works fine...whats the deal?

Is there some kind of BIOS setting that would make it work on one monitor but not another?

Probably no the problem but when you installed windows, which monitor were you using at the time.

Probably the problem Also check your screen refresh rate setting, this is huge. I have a datalux screen and it can only operate and 60HZ, anything else the screen just screws up big time. Check the requirements for your screen and make settings adjustments accordingly.

Its weird that it would be working fine though, and just stop working...I dont remember changing any display settings...last thing i did was do an adware scan..and then it just ****ed up. Ill try reloading windows 98.

Alright Ive tried everything... I reloaded windows, same thing, I tried to adjust the screen settings with the screens buttons, but they only seem to work on the parts of the boot when there is stuff showing on the screen. The parts where it goes blank, nothing shows up on the screen...I dont get it??

Just a thought... Are you using an invertor? And if so, does it have enough wattage to run your system? In the car your PSU may not have enough juice to maintain a power good signal to the mobo. But inside, on mains electrical power, it does.

Otherwise, have you recently changed anything to the system that would coincide with the new problem?

Does the screen work when connected to another device?

Im gonna try hooking a different computer with it...I thought it might be the power too, so i hooked an extension cord up to it...same deal. If the new computer works ill just swap that one in and the old carputer into the house.
