  • The Straingest Problem

My System keeps ~S~A~K~I~N~G~ it's self apart. It slides over the trunk, disconecting the Input cable, and the video card keeps coming out of the AGP slot (Its a POS). How are you keeping it in place? Oh yea, I drive @ 50 on 35 back roads(Thats MPH). I sell stuff to the local cops, they leave me alone. I drive it like it's stolen if you remeber that thread. Any Ideas?
    Thankx,
    Yoshi

this might be ovious but have you screws the components in or screwed the case down to the car so it wont wobble as much

The parts are screwed in, but that dosn't seem to help. As for the system, I need to know what screws I should get and in what configuration as not to mess up the computer or the car, and not interfere with grounding (a major problem in my setup), and fry the system.

well in my boot(trunk) i have a wooden floor so i just found a clear spot where i could put a self tapping screw through and screwd it straight to the board

if you have it sitting on the floor not insulated you should just be able to get some metal self drilling screws for the hardware store and screw it straight in

BTW MAKE SURE YOU DONT HIT THE FUEL TANK

        cheers

in my trunk (96 grand am) I just took a powerful drill and drilled 4 lead holes in the floor, 2 on each side and then put a bolt w/ a loop at the top in each hole. Then laid down some eggcrate styrofoam, put the PC on top of that, put bungi across to each bolt. hasnt moved an inch.

I have a midtower in the trunk right now on its side.. I found it was slidign all over the carpet pulling cords out etc.. I put the rubber feet on the bottom of the case (I had stick on ones instead o those that go through the holes and pop on) and stuck them to the side.. stays perfectly still on the carpet now.. any rubber feet should do the trick...

As for shaking the cards out.. where exactly are you driving! You may be able to stick a small bead of hotglue on the edge of the slot & the card to hold it in.. I used to work at a computer shop and some of the brand name systems we carried did this so they would know if the card had been removed or not.. kept em in good and you really had to yank to get it out..

My car came with carpet in the trunk. I laid four of the styrofoam pads that came with my hardrive on the bottom of the trunk and put the computer on that. The friction between the carpet and the pads keep the pads from moving and the computer stays on the pads very well. It will move occassionally, but not very much. No screws or anything holding it in place. This also give me some shock absorption. I do have a pretty heavy box, however.
