  • Tech Info/Site on subs/amps? + Question...

    Hey guys....

    Although I know a little, i'm still learning when it comes to car audio equipment. And I'm looking for some information on all of the different terms used out there, and for info on how well different combo's of hardware work together....

    I found a great deal (circuit city right now has a deal, buy any sub and get another one free) right now, and i'm going to go friday and purchase two 12" Audiobahn subs that have a 300w RMS. The amp I currently have is a RF dual channel 600w PEAK, and when checking the paper for manual test, the amp it rated 263 RMS. (so i take it i split that in half, and that's what is continuesly being pushed out per channel, correct?).

    Would I be happy with the sound these put out for the time being? Or since i'm selling my box and 10's right now, should I sell the amp with them as a package and buy another? Remember, i'm on a major budget, and i'll be able to spend around $120-$140 for an amp... i'm looking online, and the only things i'm finding that match the RMS i'm looking for are sony xplodes, and boss amps... how much does RMS mean?

    Thanks =)

    Here's one that beats it: http://www.millionbuy.com/souega2300.html
    I don't like Audiobahn subs personally, but if you've listened to them and like them, then that's all that's important. If they're dual 4-ohm subs, then you could wire them up for a 4-ohm mono load on the amp and give them 300RMS each.

      You might find better deals off ebay. Typically 1/2 off retail.

      There are tons of car audio website and forums. Search google. You can find pics of installs over at www.cardomain.com. Check out www.sounddomain.com forums too. But there are plenty more to browse.

        If you are more interested in forums, www.caraudioforums.com is a great source of info.

        For subs, JL audio is basically the popular "standard", you'll see alot of "JL W7 vs. Sub X" posts... but they are the most $$$.

        I'm gonna stick with Resonant Engineering (www.respl.com), and I'm looking forward to them releasing their amps and components before I go ahead and buy other stuff :-).

            whichever really ... if you want them for sound quality (or primarily rock music) get the 10s ... if you listen to a lot of bass music (or rap) get the 12s.

            Make sure you listen to them first to make sure you like them. take a cd in to circuit city and ask them to play it.

            speakers aren't too bad in the shops anymore ... but NEVER buy an amp retail. My alpine amp is $600 at circuit city ... got it new off ebay for $300

              Yeah, thanks for the heads up...

              I was leaning towards the 10's , because I already have a box for 2. I primarily listen to metal.. a lil rap, industrial, techno .. etc. But mostly rock/metal. I want more SQ then ear bleeding base... ya know?

              My amp is small right now, but it'll have to make due until I can buy better (on ebay of course... some good prices, just gotta stay away from the xplodes ... no matter how good the prices look...) Any other brands of amps to stay away from?

              And really though, for subs .. Alpine or Audiobahn? 200w RMS Alpine vs 300w RMS AB?
