  • Just want to make sure Im getting the right WIFI stuff

I am getting a 802.11b USB adaptor here:

    http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4052542

    and a 802.11g router here:

    http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4009352

Is this all I will need? Will I need an antenna seperately? The distance will only be about 20 feet or so. Would it be cheaper to make/buy a long ether cable?

I was going to say, you might want to get a 802.11g adaptor (instead of b) to go with your router, but when I clicked the link, looks like that is a g adaptor. So you're all set.

For a 20 foot run, yeah, ethernet would be faster/cheaper... But WiFi is so much cooler! Anyways, those prices are damn cheap, I mean, curiously cheap. Hard to go wrong, and you can always add other machines later, which is why you can look at the initial router as an "investment". Or at least tell your sig.other that...

Can I hook the wifi router is a 'child' device to my current router? Since I already have that one up and running?

You sure can. It would just be an access point. Hook the LAN side of the original router to the LAN side of the wireless router with a crossover cable. You have to disable DHCP and you would have to make sure you set it so the original router IP is the gateway. I did it, it was a little bit of a PIA but it worked great once I figured it all out.
