Ok guys finally adding a lcd to the system. I was looking at the 4" ones for $138 and the 6" for $352. These are the plug and play version meaning I don't have to get killed hooking them up. My question is this, do the extra two inches really make that much of a difference to spent more the twice as much for the 4"?

I don't know where you are getting those prices from, but the guy that used to do that for similar prices is no longer doing it.. just get a 6" from EIO for $99

Is that a VGA flat-panel screen with digital controller for $352? If so, where did you get that price from?

If the $138 one is the 4" from Parts Express, its a good screen. It was really simple to hook up and it works great from high angles (important for in the car) and in the cold. Its a little small yes, but it fit perfectly where I wanted it to go and 6" was getting a bit intrusive in my opinion. I think the 4" is large enough, and you can read 20pt fonts on it easily.

Yeah I was looking at the parts express 4". How's the clarity on that screen? And where did you get the case you use to house it?

Oh yeah one more thing. When running giess on my desktop as a winamp plug-in, the keypad plugin does not work. What's the deal? And I'm now using the carplayer plug-in till I re-write mine so it doesn't crash every five seconds.

I think the screen is very clear. If you have direct sunlight on it you cant read it very well but if it isnt in direct sunlight it reads fine in the day, and looks incredible at night.. Had the same problem with visualizations.. the keypad plugin wont work while ANY of them are running.. BTW, I used a project box from radio shack to house the LCD.. they have one (ill get exact measurements) that houses it perfectly top to bottom but leaves some room on the sides for switches and buttons to be mounted.. I think it was worth every cent.. and they shipped it to canada in 5 days (one of those was a holdover for inspection on the border).. I was very impressed with parts express in their service and the screen is really nice. One thing tho, the picture is a little decieving on their site.. the electronics on the back of the screen arent longer than the lcd, they are the same size and about the same thickness mounted on the back.. you can unscrew them tho and mount them to the side if thickness was an issue.

That would be great. I also found another screen that seems to be very similar to this setup http://www.flat-panel.com/video.htm which is a 3" model complete for $99 bucks. I am looking for possible in-dash mounting, so this may be another option. Check it out!

                    Hey,

I have the 4" Partsexpress monitor mounted in my dashboard where the ashtray was. It's great, and very readable with winamp doublesized and large fonts in the playlist. I'm using an X-10 remote mouse to control it...as for cool viz plugins, ditch Giess and get AVS from winamp.com, it's cooler than giess and even better, it runs in a window, so you could have the viz plugin running with the playlist docked on top (minimize the main winamp panel). AVS is completely customizable as well.

What video card are you using to send the signal to the 4" from Parts Express? And how are you getting power to it?

I just took a power connector from an old floppy drive.. desoldered it from it and hooked the 12VDC up to the corresponding prong that hooks up to the yellow wires from the powersupply (12VDC), and the ground to the black by the yellow. Then i had a nice way to plug the LCD into the standard power connectors of the PC and it would run with the PC.
