  • Can anybody recommend a Reversing Camera?

Just wondering what reversing cameras any of you lot are using, i dont want a webcam cos i want to wire it straight into my cartft.com t\s monitors video input. Also would like it to work in low light, ie reversing lights light.
    Cheers .

ps It wont be installed outside,so wont need to be weather proof etc.

I'm using one that I got from digitalww.com

The link to the one I'm using is : Color Mini Camera

It works well and has the desired output.

      Hey Jeff,

Would you happen to have any screen shots of this camera in use?

I'm thinking about getting one of those too but the screen shots Armen has are the same screen shots from almost all the cameras.

I'm sure I'm not the only one curious about this.

Jeff, where do you have this mounted? Inside or outside? Are you using it for backing up purposes? I really want to get a cam and cheesebox and do the auto switching when in reverse.

One suggestion that I would highly recommend is to spend the extra cash for a wide-angle camera(wide angle = >90 degree field of view). I believe that without a wide-angle lens, a backup camera is pretty much worthless.

Digitalww.com sells a camera that has a massive 150 degree field of view - though it's expensive. There are some sellers on ebay that have wide-angle reverse cameras (the type that would replace your trunk keyhole) for <$50.

          Good luck.

Thanks for the replies guys, ive seen the cams on digitalww and they look just the ticket, shame i cant find a UK seller, but if i cant i will take the plunge there.
Angle isnt a big problem because the cam will be looking almost straight down.

can anyone who owns this camera shows some pictures of the angle you mounted it at, and the actual screenshot? I am thinking about replacing my trunk lock with this unit, but not sure if the straight horizontal angle will allow me to view the ground.

I guess not too many people have a rearview cam installed, and if they do, they don't have this model. The pics on the digitalww site seem to be the same for every cam, so it's hard to judge what you can see.

that's exactly what I am looking for, I will have to figure out what the dimentions are of this cam, so I can check if it fits in my keyhole without having to do any drilling.

Sorry guys, I wasn't paying attention to this thread. I actually use it up front for the track. It's a great little camera! I'll take a screen shot with the camera as the car is in pieces (I am in the process of painting it). It would work great as a reverse camera. I have the external weather-proof mount for it, too.

I am looking for a camera myself. I want to use it as my rear view mirror. does anyone have video of what the image looks like while moving or at night? I am laso interested in adding night vision like some of the new caddy's.

Do you realise how old that thread is
I think most of those people are dead by now and wont be able to help.
You better look in another one, or start one yourself.

As a start you can check out the one at mp3car. You can find more pics of that cam at ebay
