  • Problem with slimline slotload DVD

I have a Panasonic slimline slot loading dvd/cdrw combo drive with USB-IDE adapter. It can read DVDs and music CDs without problems but it CANNOT read DATA CDs or blank CDRs

    Anybody know what's causing this?

I have the same one. Haven't had any problems...

I have found as I entered the DVD burning arena, that DVD drives are very particular what kind (brand) of media they like..

I stick to Memorex CD blanks ( cheap too ) and any kind of ( Fuji Code ) blank DVD's..
also, if you are burning a dvd, try to force a -booklet type ( read negative Booklet )

I have not ried that many kinds of media, but you now have me curious. I always go to a site that is FULL of info regarding individual uinits and what medias work on them.
    try http://www.dvdrhelp.com

not sure if they list that slimline, will check myself

I have the CW-8123-B, and I can read everything I have thrown at it, but I can't burn data cds. I have a version of Nero 5.5 that is supposed to have support for the drive. I can take MP3s and burn Audio CDs, I can copy audio CDs, I can copy data CDs, but I can't create new data CDs. I originally installed the OS and set it up with a different drive in place, That might be my problem. I have tried different media, but one disk that fails can be put back in and an Audio CD made. OS is Win2k Sp4 and I think I can still burn with the original drive but it is in a USB enclosure now.

This is driving me nuts. It can't read ANY (not even one) data cd. It just spins until explorer gives up. But I was able to rip all my audio cd's to mp3 without any glitch. DVD plays fine too. I have USB 2.0 through PCMCIA if that'd help.
