  • Looking for height of theAudigy PCI cards??

I have a super small case and was looking for the height of the Audigy PCI sound card.

If you could measure total height and then measure the pin height, Id appreciate it. I just want to see if I can fit it in there as is, I'd like to not go the exernal USB route if I can avoid it.

    Thanks!

i have a first gen audigy and its something like 3/8" tall is my guess (from the last time i saw it) ... something tells me that no matter how you cram it there is going to be no way to fit it in there. i think i remember something about the external one sounding better anyways because of a better output stage. just search around and pick an external one save yourself the headache
don't worry i know i usually don't make much sense

                Height : 4"
It's basically about as tall as the metal PCI connector thing that has all the outputs on it.

Thanks, that is what I was worried about. Looks like I'll have to go external. Probably the Extigy or Audigy NX which ever I can get cheaper.

Risers point the card away from the motherboard

The PCI right-angle adapter I have (came with a low profile rack case) conveniently puts the sound card right through the middle of the CPU heatsink.

There's some noname sound cards that are sort of L-shaped, where most of the card is roughly half-height, and there's just a skinny chunk going up along the bracket to hold the connectors. There's a couple on this page: http://www.kobian.com/products.php?categoryid=33
My idea is to remove that upper portion with extreme prejudice (after tracing where the output traces come from), then mount the output connector someplace else and wire it back to the board. Probably need coupling capacitors since those seem to be located up next to the connectors.
