  • Inverter squealing while idling

Yesterday while trying to get to work, I got stuck in a traffic jam and ended up going at about 10 mph for a few miles. My 300 watt inverter didn't seem to like it and started squealing in protest. Would this indicate that it's time to get a new alternator?

What is the current draw of your MP3 setup?
What was your battery voltage during the squeeling? What was the voltage going INTO your inverter? What RPM is your motor running when you're doing 10MPH?

You could just be suffering a voltage drop loss from small gauge wiring going to your inverter, and alternators don't put much power out at idle anyways.
