  • Pocket PC Carputer with 40 Gb storage

Anyone yet tried the Asus WL-HDD wifi NAS with a pocket PC?

Two issues have affected the ability of a pocket PC to be an effective carputer replacment:
    1. Storage
    2. Screen size.

With the use of a Asus WL-HDD
    On ASUS site

The storage issue should be overcome.

I am thinkin of using this:

HP Ipaq HX4700 (Wifi, Bluetooth, 4" VGA screen)
    Head Unit with Aux in
Asus WL-HDD + something to power it
    Belkin Bluetooth GPS/Mapping
DVD video - shrunk to Divx - transfered wirelessly to the WL-HDD from the home network.
WMA or MP3's played from Pocket PC

    Advantages:
    Instant on
Easy install....Wl-Hdd + Pocket PC holder charger
Video, Music, Navigation, Wifi Wardriving, Internet Via bluetooth to Cel phone
Best: You take the most expensive component with you when you park...use it for portable music and movies..

    Disadvantages:
Small 4" VGA screen leading to harder to control when driving.

All I need to install my system will be the PPC holder and Wl-HDD with 40gb laptop harddrive....also some way to power the WL-HDD...keep it in the trunk.

    Thoughts?

    that's amighty nifty product.....and it's worth a try I guess....I just don't think I would like messing with it...lol

I like having it very simple.....meaning just the touch screen of the computer to mess with......

interested to see what others have to say though!

I started way back when with an iPaq. It was great for all the reasons you listed. Had it mounted with velcro, used it for movies, music, gps. It was great but it was like a tease, left me wanting a bigger screen, more storage, more power. It was the tip of the iceberg. Now, I use the iPaq for rear passenger control (Zerama).

The X50V is an awesome device. I use it in my PocketPC based carputer. See the following thread:
