  • A7N8X-VM/400 & Athlon XP Mobile?

Ok, I cannot find a FAQ, tut, or post on what to do about this. I have read that people have wired two pins together, but which two. I did on here and on but must not be using the right combination of keywords.

I know someone has the link saved or can tell me what to do.

    Thanks,

As this is one of the motherboards that I have been thinking of getting, I gotta ask: What are you going to accomplish by wiring 2 pins together? Do you have to mod it to work with a mobile AMD chip?
      Thanks.
      Spent so far: $1,755

From what i have read and seen, you have to mod it to get it to work. Right now I only have it running at 800Mhz, instead of 1.9 (2600). I did not know this would have been an issue, otherwise i would get a different board. If I can get it working without problems, then it might still be a good board. As of now, kind of a pain until i get a better answer.

hmm, thats interesting. I'm not sure about AMD...but for intel i've read that some mobile processors rated at 2.4 gHz and up will only run at 1.2 gHz on a socket 478 motherboard....but in some systems they will work at 2.4. I read this on ebay and seemed scamish to me...so i didnt touch it. I ordered a socket 478 mobile 1.3 gHz celeron...and that wouldnt even fit my board (1 pin was in a wrong location). But i ordered a 1.7ghz mobile Pentium4, and that fit the board. I'm awaiting the heatsink before i test it out though.

I think we just didnt understand you were having a speed issue at the begining. Sounds to me like your bios isnt detecting the processor automatially. You might want to change the cpu stepping in your bios.

Yea, unfortunately this board does not allow that option. So once I get this working, this board better kick some arse, or I will be upset. I then might have to go and look at some to calm me down

There is a problem with this board supporting a mobile processor but you can fix the problem with the wire mod as you stated. I think Asus was coming out with a bios update for this, but I don't know if they ever came out with it. The wire mod that fixes this problem is really simple. Here is a link to a thread that explains the issue. The link to the site that shows the pinouts is on the page 3. This should solve your problem easily. Good luck.

Thanks will check it out and try it. I just updated to the newest bios (1003) still not working, but was hoping like heck that it would work.
