  • question about touchscreens, and interesting device found

okay folks, this thread is a TWO PARTER! that's right, TWO parts! double the fun, like that gum!

now, for the question. I'm looking at the touchscreens available here at mp3car.com, and I'm wondering something. are these going to be like laptop touchpads where you can't use something like a stylus on it, or are they more like PDA touchscreens where a stylus will work great? I ask because I do a lot of doodling and sketching, and being able to do it on a touchscreen would be great, if possible.

also, I've managed to get my hands on an interesting little device. I don't know if these are frequently found and I'm just an idiot, or if I'm damn lucky, but it's a touchpad, like those for laptops, but it plugs into the PS/2 port on a computer. I can't test it at the moment due to lack of PS/2 ports, but in thoery such an item would work great for carputers. I'll post some pictures as soon as possible, if anyone wants me to.
softmodded xbox, PSOne screen, inverter. simple and effective. Combine with PDA and head unit with aux input, and we're having a wonderful time.

You can use those pens on the TS.

They'd surely work, but why need them when you have a touch screen?!

never said I'd use it over a touchscreen. just said I've got a cool little touchpad that'd go great with the tiny keyboard thing you can get at EB games.

and is there any kind of delay between touching the touchscreen and the thing happening? if I sketched something out real quick, the mouse wouldn't drag behind, right? and does it have the click effect when you touch, or do you have to hit another button for an actual click? can you use another mouse alongside the touchscreen?

sorry for all the questions, but if this thing works as well as it might, I just saved myself close to a thousand dollars(was going to buy a wacom touchscreen).

EDIT:also, I'm looking at the stuff on the eight inch lilliput, and I'm a little confused. it says it supports up to 1024X768, but then it says it only supports up to 800X600. which is it?

I use a Cirque Touchpad - Same as the original Glidepoint.... Its a box consumer version of what they put into most laptops. Works great... Its just a backup though, I use a 7 inch touch VGA indash.

xenarc, lilliput, or some other one? which company would you reccomend for higher quality?

Not the Lilliput anyway. Xenarc is better than all the rest, but the Linitx type is also good (I have one), although it doesn't have auto power on VGA signal, or AV signal like the Xenarc...but it's much cheaper.

they can support higher resolutions by down sampling the higher resolution.. .. it will look fuzzy .. much like 800x600 looks on a TV ...

I use a stylus from time to time.. when in windows.. the FRONTENDS usually have good big buttons for my fat fingers.. :-)
