  • COM port problems. VIA MII

I have a VIA MII mobo and it wont detect my COM port. When i go to the device manager it says the device can not start.

I can't find driver for this.

You have it enabled in Bios, right?

while booting up the PC, press the delete button a few times (right when it reports the memory and drives and such, black screen)

You will come to a blue Bios screen..select SuperIO Device, and make sure the serial port is set to Auto

              Thanks for the help.
I went into the bios. It wasn't disabled but it was set to one of the other choices. I set serial port 1 to auto and serial port 2 to auto. I went into the Device Manager and it showed two com1 ports (both not working), I changed the second com1 port to com2 and still the same thing.

              Any other usggestions?

i kinda had this same problem, all i did was uninstall the drivers and disabled them, then reinstalled the 4-in-1 drivers and reinstalled the ms ones too and both ports work fine for me now.

how did you reinstall the ms ones? with the windows cd?

I re-installed 4-1 and i get two com1 ports. Is it supposed to be like that? before it would show com2 and com3

when i got into the fisrt com1 port this is the conflit device list:
                    i/o range 03fc - 0403
                    IRQ: 15
                    Input/Output Range 03FC - 0403 used by:
                    Motherboard resources
                    Communications Port (COM1)
                    Interrupt Request 15 used by:
                    Communications Port (COM1)
                    Secondary IDE Channel

second com1 port shows the same

to install the ms ones i just uninstalled, restarted, then went to device manager and hit update drivers or something and it found them in the signed driver list thing.
and as for the irq stuff, you can change the irq settings in the bios settings somewhere, look at the manual and itll be more specific.

yeah sounds like that is your best alternative.
if you do have to send it back its not that bad, cause my first m210k had some chip burnout and i had to exchange it. Other than a messup on ups' part the exchange was really easy.
