  • Force laptop into secondary monitor?

I am piecing together my carputer. The only problem that I have is that my laptop will only boot to the default LCD. It is a dell inspiron 7000 with a rage3d card in it. I have to use the ATI icon to get to my 8"lilliput setting. Is there any way I can automate that, or some kind of file I can edit to force it to my secondary monitor when it starts up?

If the Bios doesn't have an option I know Dell uses the Fn + F8 combo to switch between CRT and LCD. You might be able to add the function key sequence to a batch file or scipt to automate. (just a thought)

having a cable plugged in should clone the screen to the display. if not change the settings in the display settings to set the crt / vga as defualt monitor, you may not be able to update the drivers as they have been configured for the laptop

My IBM has an option in the bios: Primary boot display: LCD, CRT, or both.. (I used both). If I select CRT, the laptop boots at a higer resolution or refreshrate so my Liliput says "overrange", when using both lcd and crt I didnt have this problem.

If there isnt such an option in your bios, you can rather easy create a small file which does the actual switch for you, there are some programs available which can "record" a movement (clicking the tray icon) and save that as an exe. Placing a shortcut to that file in the startup folder should work also. Only you're missing the bootscreen and can't configure the bios without the LCD but it should work.

I already have the bios set to LCD/CRT, which works until it gets into windows and goes into the default mode. I think the scripting or exe might just be the hot ticket. I have no idea how to script, so I will have to research it. I am also going to look into the driver config file to see if I can change it there. Thanks for the help guys.

This app is able to record your mousemoves/clicks, and save that into an .ahk file, which you can convert to an .EXE and place in your startup folder.

Just start recording, switch to the tray icon, enable output, and stop recording

I used it in the past to bypass the nag from Mapmonkey beta......
