the c600 should be fine for running in the car, you will need a incar charger, I would recommend going for a proper dell charger rather than a 3rd party one, at least you will get the right end to plug in for a start! If you dont want to hack the c600 up to get to the power switch, although I dont think it would be much, just removing the thin plastic strip along the top so you can get to the button.. o.. yeah if you dont want to hack it up, then get a port replicator ebays a good place to start, although I had a couple of probs with this coming loose in the car on my 1st install. On the plus side your getting a decent machine with a ATI gfx card. O... just remembered --- The C600 can suffer from feedback from the audio out port. I sold a couple of these to dj's which were returned the next week due to mouse noise being heard through the speakers, it was ok when it wasnt amplifyed, but when it was it was shocking.. I would check this out before doing anything. The opted for the older cpx model.. this problem seemed to have been solved by the c610. You could always use the mp3 creative usb 1.1 sound card ! anyway I could go on for a bit but I wont. .

thx for the reply buddy... I've been researching goodies for my setup all day...lol. I have a docking station (port replicator). It has a power button on it that should be fairly accessible for me (2seat car, mounting vertical behind pass seat). That is a bummer about the audio situation, I'll look into that card. I looked at some car chargers on ebay, saw a couple different ones, both had the correct connector... neither was Dell brand specifically tho. Your running a dell laptop in your car?

      thx again

I ran a c610 in my first install, then in the bmw went for the M10k.. now for the third install (new car) I have here a d600 (centrino 1.4) with a bust screen. So I'm going to slap together afew components and build a auto on circuit for it.. I got a dell psu 12v from www.battery.co.uk so thats going to be hard wired in I think, the power off will be software based and should run quite happy for 3 hours on battery which will be handy for remoting in from home to do any updates.. this will stop me looking a fool sat in my car for hours parked in the drive !

          Latitude C600
          Dell C/Port II Dock
          PCI soundcard (in Dock)

I have yet to install mine in my car. I ran a few tests and I haven't had any sound quality problems yet. But then again that could be because I am not using the internal sound card and I haven't tried to amplify it. I am going to be using a shutdown controller (SDC). I went with the CarPC EZ SDC.

Since I am sure you may have some of the same questions I had/have I suggest you do a search on the forum for posts posted by me.
