  • wtf is CPU Strapping Function

I've noticed a jumper for this on my EPIA-800 motherboard. What does it mean? I've googled it a bit, but could only find answers in german or something.

Even if you don't know the answer, just post here to show me you care, and you read my dumb post anyway, help me stay bumped to the top so others will see and hopefully have the answer.

Nope, manual just says "jumper for enable/disable of CPU strapping function"

Someone told me a long time ago, "If you don't know what it is, don't mess with it." other than that, can't help ya. Good luck.
                    Install { 50% } Complete for now.
                    But stable and running happily

Good advice I would say, I've screwed up so many things after saying the words "wonder what this does".

ok, here is what i found and i'm only about 50% to 60% sure that this is anywhere close to what it actually does. it simply uses the reported FSB strapping to determine a subset of memory bus multipliers from which the BIOS then selects the most suitable candidate. You can check this behaviour yourself though; just use CPU-Z or a similar utility to monitor the memory bus speed as you change the FSB.

If you divide the FSB reported by CPU-Z with the memory bus speed over a
number of different FSB speeds, you'll soon be able to spot whether the
motherboard is implementing a fixed series of multipliers or is locking the
                        memory bus.

i believe this might actually allow for a greater overclocking of the apia MB, however since i'm completely guessing here i could be wicked wrong and if you try oc'ing this mb on what i said and fry it, it's your own fault.

Why not email VIA Support and ask them what it is?
