  • MicroATX woes/ half height PCI Cards

    What would you do?

Im trying to stick with the MicroATX case, for size /'cost/upgrade features..

Only have two half-height PCI slots....

    Im thinking of doing this
via USB (external audigy 2) (hope my usb 1.1 is ok for dvdaudio....)
TV/FM Tuner (have to find one half height)
WiFi, (have to find one half-height)

OR: just cut slits in the top of case, and have the cards stick out an inch or two (i havent checked under seat for clearance yet)..

    ??? suggestions

    P4 2.0, MicroATX, Audigy2nx, Monster Cable / Alpine.

Not much room in case.. would only be able to use one full size card in it, and that would keep all the others from being usable..

Im thinking now about buying a low profile usb2.0 card, a low profile wifi card (want a card for ability to add external antennaes), then have the tv/fm tuner and audigy 2nx on usb2.0....

      That might work ok...

Anyway, I really would advise against USB 1.1 for audio, especially high-bandwidth audio like a DVD would put out. That should give you a good running start.

In a MicroATX case? I have never seen one that will take PCI risers. I have seen a few MiniITX cases that would, just not a MicroATX. Half's all the way

There are different type of risers, ya knows, even agp risers do exist.

I am not talking about the risers comonly used in & designed for mini-itx that allow you to connect 2 pci cards to one pci slot, but simple risers that basically are merely a pcb with tracks and a pci slot tilted 90

TimW needs to of them, one short and one long.

              Linitx.com has flexiriser too.

Yes, those were the ones im looking at.. However with the size of full-size PCI cards, they wont fit sideways in the case (would be running into the CPU/heatsink).

Tonight im going to try swapping out for a board with 3 pci, and will do a usb 2.0 card, tv tuner card, and wifi card built in, and use external sound..

I thought about the dremel route... but thats a last resort

Too much for the rewards.. plus i want it to still look like a pc, and be portable without cutting my fingers open (id build it with a jig saw and screws!.. i dont have many tools! lOl)

                    I found my solution.

Switched to a motherboard with 3 pci. One PCI slot will have usb 2.0 card. This will go out to the audigy 2 nx.
I will get a linksys wmp54g (low profile wifi card), and a ATI E-wonder capture card (low profile).. That fills up the pci slots..

Switching from a AMD XP1800+ to a P4 2.0ghz takes 15 seconds longer to boot... damn intels early pooh!...
