Anything that you have room for can be used as a carputer... plenty of people have full size atx boards in their cars... i did a little while ago

what are your plans for this carputer?
do you plan on using the TS of the s-presso?
are you going with an inverter or dc-dc?

I also reccomend you search for the "expresso" here... I know for a fact some people have used them. and maybe they're feelings on their adequacy will give you more insight into your purchase

thanks for your info! but what is the benafit of using a VIA EPIA M10000 mini board vs. a bigger one! I'm planning to havd gps, tv, radio, and good sounding system from it, also to watch dvd, and maybe obd system in my car but would like to make it look good,, also what would be a good power suppy to use for a big or small set up!

is a good place to look for PSU

i personally am using a mATX p4 3.2 i think there are 2 benefits in using the epia boards... size and popularity, because they're so popular you can always find someone who may have experienced what you are.

the benefit of a via epia board is that it's much smaller and uses much less power... if you search around a bit you'll find that probably the biggest headache in putting a computer in the car is powering it. for reasonably low-power systems, if you've got the $$, then you can get an opus and be done with it, for higher-power systems you will have to run an inverter and a standard ATX supply, at least until some of the new higher-power DC-DC supplies are released...
But don't take it from me! here's a quote from a real, live newbie:

                  Hey L8back,

Why don't you instead of using a regular AMD proccessor, use an AMD mobile processor. You would be saving a lot of power by doing so only losing a tiny bit of performance.

                  Peace,

I'll second that. Pentiums take a lot of power. Anything above 1Ghz with decent amount of ram and a fast HD should be enough for the CARPC use.

I am in lust with my dell, having 3.2 p4 and 1 gig ram is wonderful... except the need for the inverter... I am anxiously awaiting a 200watt DC-DC

You can run any ATX-spec setup that draws less than 150 watts.
I think you should go with the mobile version of the same CPU, but other than that you should be golden. The only other issue might be the 7200rpm HDD. They can draw some hefty power spinning up.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
                          How about the Wiki?

Not exactly. You can run anything that stays under 150 watts. Search on terms "Power Calculators" or go to the FAQ Emporium and look at the thread on power supplies for links to calculators.
