  • Lazy man's computer !

    Hi Guys,

A mate of mine has just asked for me to set him up with a Car PC, as i dont have the time to build one from scratch i've told him the best way will be to buy a ready made one of some sort. We done some browsing and found loads on the market, so i thought i'd ask some questions and get some advice b4 i start buying his kit.

    Requirements
    Must be a small case

Power supply must be built into it, dont want to use any inverter, and needs to be able to have a shut down/start system. (We simply wanna be able to take the power / ground cable directly from the battery to it or something.

Needs to be able to take standard ide 3.5" pc drive as he has an existing 200gb disk.

Like the Processor to be as Fast as poss.

At least 512 mb ram (will try to go for 1gb)

    cd/dvd

Very good qual video (not going to be used for games but a lot of dvd/avi's.etc)

    Very good sound card
Some sort of pre out so can be conected to amps etc

    2 usb or more

    At least 1 serial

    Wifi if poss

As you can see from the above we are looking for the top end of "ready made car pc" if theirs anything you think we need to add please let us know.

The end salution be be a simple clean, good looking tiny pc in the boot that conects up to a few amps (Front, Read & Sub) that works like a dream.

Maybe it might be an idea to get a sticky on a list of ready made pc's for car etc for people like my mate.

    Any advice will be appreciated.
