  • Audigy 2 ZS PP & SP-13000 Compatibility Question

I recently purchased an EPIA Sp-13000 board and an Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro card w/ internal IO HUB.

When i try and boot the system with the card in the PCI slot, it starts up, but does not do the POST beep, and the video does not initialize (monitor does not come out of standby).

When booting without the card, it works flawlessly.

This is not in a car, its on a bench, using a standard ATX power supply (so its not power issues i dont think).

Does anyone know if there has been anyone else that has had problems with this card in EPIA boards?

    I'd Appreciate any feedback, thanks.

      hmm.

i disabled onboard sound and it still did not boot.

one of the first things computers do when booting, is initialise the video card.. if it cant do that, it wont do anything.

i have a weird feeling that it thinks its a video card, and trying to initialize it as one when its not...... but i dont know why i think that.

Upon further research, it seems as though the Audigy is very IRQ Sensitive.. indeed not behaving well with other more fully-featured boards. Some people say that its best to put it in a PCI port which is not sharing any IRQ's with integrated peripherals.. so i disabled basically all the onboard devices and gave it another shot. Still nothing.

i have no idea. Can someone else with a SP-13000 and access to an Audigy give it a go and see if it works? Im stumped.

are you using the additional two pin 12V power connector on the board? It doesnt say what its used for in the manual. Maybe that is to power the PCI cards or other peripherals.

Nope im not using it, im sure it is for "additional" power like you say.
I have an Audigy2 ZS in my desktop, i will try it in the sp1300 for you today.

                Ok , i just swapped my Audigy1 with the Audigy2 ZS .
It booted to windows XP fine .Im using the bios out of the box vrs " v6.oofg "
Video all working , i only put the card in, i didnt connect the additional hub.
At least you know it "should" work, good luck

Not sure exactly what your problem is but I know a lot of Soundblaster cards had problems with VIA chipsets. I just spent a whole day trying to get various flavors of Creative cards working on my system with no luck, plugged in a crappy $14 soundcard and boom, instant sound. First thing I would do is make sure you have the latest BIOS and current drivers. If that fails I would try a Turtle Beach or some other brand.

yep the bios is the most recent version for the SP-13000 (1.07)

i'll RMA the soundcard and see if the next one works. disappointing really.

RMA'd the soundcard, got a new one back, SP13000 boots up first time.

                      Just a dodgy card.

Now its up and working, time to look forward at what else needs to be done.

                      Thanks for your help guys.

basically took it back to the distributor and said it was faulty equipment. they test it and repair if possible, or like in this case, they replace it.
