I have a 533mhz carputer that I cannot get to post. It will get power and act like it is turning on, but right now it will not give any beep codes unless I pull the ram. I have right now, 256 megs of ddr 400 (pc 3200?) and just the motherboard. All necisarry wires are in and it seems to turn on. It will turn on the power supply and it does get power to the pci devices. But it shows no picutre on the built in or even a pci video card. I am just looking for options rather then sending it off for repair. I have tried clearing cmos multiple time. I have had this motherboard working. It has not been shorted out against anything as far as I can tell.
Progress,.... that is what I keep forgetting ;)

Work the problem down some. First try putting the motherboard on a static bag and put the CPU and memory in it, attach a power supply and see if it works (I am assuming it has on-board video, if not put a video card on it). If that does not work then start replacing components, you can't assume anything works until you verify it. If it works then start adding components and finally put it in the case. It may be a slow process but it works most of the time and it is the best way to find the problem.

all that it has now is a standard power supply(which is verified) memory (also tested on desktop computer) and that is all that it has right now. Built in video card dosent display anything and neither does a pci one. The pci videocard was pulled out of a working computer and the ram was tested. The motherboard is not mounted. I am also a computer tech, and have been around computers for quite some time. Although this is my first post, I have been browsing here for more then 1 year. I have been designing a carputer for more then 3 years and have just started to fall into enough money for it. I am more curious about the wake on lan feature and things like that. Is it possible that the computer is in some kind of sleep or hybernate mode? I know that it is getting power to the pci devices(which arent always hooked up just using those to make sure that it is getting power) and there is no hdd or anything hooked up to it. Basically all parts have been tested and more then one kind of tested ram has been tested. I might just hit up my favorite repair shop and have it tested for $10. I dont know what I am doing wrong. And tips or tricks would be killer right now. Thanks.

JC- Not sure what bags you are using. I had a no post problem with an AMD MB and it turned out to be a grounding problem. Found out when I setup the MB on the bag it came in. I have used that type of bag many times during build of systems and never had any problems.

Haystack, I wasn't aware of your knowledge on PC building. When I have problems I tend to start at the lowest level of components and work my way up to determine the problem. I have been working on PC's for some time now and I know it can be aggrivating when weird stuff like this comes up. If I get anymore ideas, I will let you know.

I think your problem is memory, the specs I saw for that systemboard is for DDR266 or 2100 memory. You said you are using DDR400 or 3200 memory. This would cause the problem you are having. You may want to try 2100 memory and see if it solves the problem.

I tried pc 2100 and it started smoking. I took it to a puter shop and they slapped in some pc3200 and they said that it worked fine. So I bought the ram from them and for the first time in the 3 months that I had it it worked. I got all excited and plugged it in and set up windows 98 so I could upgrade to 2000 pro restarted then computer and it shut itself off. I couldnt get it to load up after that. Supposedly any pc3200 will downclock to the 2100 specs. I guess I will just send it it then. The only thing that I dont get is why it smoked using ddr266. It did work find in another computer and the other computer is still using it right now. But yeah just looking for some things to try. I might just have to buy another motherboard while this one is getitng fixed and get stuck with 2 carputers, ohh damn.

I've already had 2 people on these forums alone that have friend equipment while testing it on antistatic foam and bags

The ram or the mobo started smoking? I think your best bet is to send it in, there sounds like a deeper issue with the board.

you let the smoke out of a MB component? Start over with a new board.
