  • Slim DVD drive not detecing

I spent this weekend installing my subs and a new amp and I also wanted to fix my DVD playback. After watching a DVD for about 45 mins it would crash. Turns out it was Power DVD so i installed WinDVD and that fixed the problem.

However, there's still one problem. When my DVD drive detects and shows up in My Computer, it works beautifully. I ran a couple movies from begining to end w/ no problems. However, when it doesn't detect, which is often, obviously nothing works. I've been spending some time trouble shooting, but can't get to the bottom of it. #1 - When the computer boots w/ it plugged in, it almost never detects. (when it reboots after hibernate, it still doesn't detect it even it was detected before hibernate.) #2 - WHen i plug it in after it boots, it almost always detects. #3 - When it was plugged in at boot and i unplug it, it almost always takes 2 tries of unplugging it and plugging it back in for it to work. On the times where it doesn't detect, Device Manager refreshes itself once every second until i unplug it, then the next time i plug it in it works. I tried using hibernate trigger and dev con to disable it and renable it on hibernate, but that didn't help at all.

Is there anything i can do from the command line on start up to make it work, using devcon or something?

I'm using an EPIA M10000 motherboard. I'm not sure of the brand of DVD drive, but it is a slim dvd drive plugged into a USB converter. It shows up as QSI DVD-ROM SDR-083 in device manager. THe converter is plugged directly into the motherboard.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

If you find a solution let me know! There seems to be a lot of installs with EPIA boards with this problem, mine included

yeah, i read some of those while searching for a solution. Seems to be a VIA issue. i don't understand why unplugging and plugging it in works but devcon disable and enable doesn't work.

Does a PCI USB card get around the problems of the VIA USB chipset or is that just a pipedream.
