  • Starting a project, need help

Ok, I have done a lot of reading on this post lately. I am about to start my own carputer project and I was hoping someone could just look it over for me and tell me if there is anything else I need and if it will work ok.

Also I was wondering, do you have to have a case for it or can I just mount everything in my glove box and just make a cover plate for it? I really dont want to spent $100-200 for something that I will just cover up.

I plan on eventually adding a GPS and the primary use is for playing music and watching movies. The monitor I will be using is one that comes with my air ride management and is touchscreen.

This is what I have planned:
    OPUS 120W DCX3.120 $128
    VIA EPIA M10000 Mini-ITX Mainboard $158
    Transcend PC2100 DDR266/512MB $095 Logicsupply.com
    Panasonic Slim DVD-CD/RW $090
    3.5" Samsung 160GB Hard Drive $095 Logicsupply.com

Thank you in advance for any help.

You might consider a 2.5" laptop hard drive to reduce the power draw even further. It may or may not be an issue.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
      How about the Wiki?

        .

Is the existing monitor VGA? What type of interface does the touchscreen have usb or serial?

If not then you might have a tough time integrating the LCD and touch screen with the computer.

I'm not sure of what type of connections the monitor has yet. I am waiting for a reply from the company I am buying it from. Cant it be hooked up with a S-cable or RCA's? I think I remember reading something about RCAs being bad for text, but I dont remember anything about S-video cable.

I doubt that the touchscreen system that you current (/will be getting) will be compatible with the computer. I was looking at a touchscreen system to control airbags on my car. But I think that the system uses a proprietary touchscreen system that will not be able to feed in to the computer.

Instead of the touchscreen system that was being sold, I was looking for a application that could control the airbags from within the computer (an external app) but I have not had much luck and I have zero programming experience.
