If you read the first article you would notice that it says it will be released in Spring of 2006 so that post at the bottom that you are referring to isn't even valid.

This isn't Vaporware since they never said it was released yet.

Do you want a PC that you have full control over the way it works and looks or do you want some proprietary-only unit?
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

I have been looking at the Avic's and decided to stay with my carputer. For one thing, I have a 1 DIN slot, this or the D1 will not work at all for me. There are many other reasons to stick with the PC, some of which were already mentioned. I guess it boils down to what you want, not what others tell you you should have.

              Right... whatever.

              Is it out?

Do you know how long we waited for the first in dash VGA monitor? It was going to be released next month for somewhere arround 2 years

As for the post... it was on the same page you refered us to. Get a grip.

                    Guys,

this is not some obscure little company in china, this is pioneer. They showed it at CES.

I'll see in a few days on the Brussels european motor show what they have to offer

It is in fact a carpc, as it's running MS Windows (automotive version).

It only lacks the flexibility of the options we know...

Hmmm... it'll be interesting to extract the GPS software from that

Right because if it gets shown at CES it will be in mass market and available everywhere next week.

I am saying I'll belive it when it is really available. This would not be the first 'technical demo' unit to see the lights of CES.

It is SUPPOSED to be available 2nd quarter 2006, but IMO it is NOT a competitor to a carPC.

As I understand it, you can not watch DVDs on the screen. You need to wire to another monitor for this. Also, you can not insert a CD loaded with MP3s and transfer, you have to put in real CDs and let it rip them and tag them with the CDDB databse. This is also the problem with the eclipse units.

Will there be a work-around for this? We'll see...

                          BUT, the GPS looks promising.

GPS is easy. license the maps and have a navigation interface coded or purchased.
Unless they do something amazingly cool that hasn't been done before, then I'll be interested.
