  • xmd1000 question

I am having problems getting my XMD1000 to work.

I purchased a cable on ebay, connected the "+" and "-" wires to positve and ground accordingly (in line with the cables that power my pc, so i know they work)

I plugged it into the serial port, and even waited an hour for it to get information, activate, etc.

Also, the RCA's are hooked up.

Question is, will I see it in device manager? Do I just have to know the port number? How do I find the port number.....

How do I verify it even turns on..... I'm a bit lost here.

O.K. Since no one else will chime in I'll give it a go. First, what cable did you purchase? is it powered? Have you loaded the drivers? .......

Until you give me an idea of what you have try this. Download the Timetrax software for the XM (there should be a demo version on their website and thats really all you need). Run it (this will initialize your XMD box for serial control). This program has signal strength meters as well as volume meters. Check the signal strength should be two blue bars,I think. If that is visible, check for the volume meters (think these are like RR volume meters - green fading to red). If they are visible and you still have no sound check your input to the computer and ensure its not muted.

The key to the above is the Timetrax software initialized the XMD for serial control. If you leave the XMD powered (I use the XM Commander XM-RVR-D-001) you will not have to re-initialize the box again. Mine has three wires on the power cable: ground, ACC, Battery. The battery conection keeps the box initialized.

If after you try the above and still have problems, please provide the info I requested and we'll see if you need to download and install drivers.

Ok so I installed timetrax on my laptop... plugged the serial cable in, and it isn't even locating the xmd box..... so i guess it's pretty obvious it's either a defective cable or defective box........ i'll have to get a multimeter out and start checking stuff and what not.

Thanks for the help. I like how it searches for the box... which basically answered my questions..... appreciate it.

Just start from com one and keep changing it till it works. Or... install timetrax, I think it automatically sets it up for and will say what com it is in the setting. Also, go into your control panel, system, and then hardware devices: make sure windows does not see it as a mouse. If so diable it and then try it.

Also be sure that it didnt find the box as a serial mouse when you plugged it in. Are you using the DB9 connector on the mobo or the 2nd serial port header?

dillin, how about I bring it over and you fix it for me!!! he he.

I'm using the serial connector on the outside of the box...

I also tried it on the laptop, when I plug it in, nothing happens, no "found hardware" or anything, kinda like it doesn't exist.

Not sure where the missing link is here.
