  • Removed Jumper from Mii10k - Mono Audio

    So i wanted to configure my M1-ATX for hardoff=never, but i didnt have a spare jumper. so being the genius engineer that I am I figured I'd take one off the motherboard... I open up the spec for the board and find one that looks innocent.

    I chose a jumper from the "Front Audio Panel: F_Audio" set of pins. specifically the jumper connecting pins 5(Line_Out_R) and 6(Next_R). Put the jumper on my m1-atx .. put the pc back in the car and everything worked perfect.

    So today I realize there is no audio coming out of the left side of my car. So I have a question and a moral...

    The question is why did removing the jumper kill an audio channel? Prhaps if I knew what Next_R was I would understand.. I had thoiught it was just a weird name for the ground for Line_out_r.. Im confused.

    The moral is dont remove jumpers, they are apparently there for a reason.

    those jumpers, i believe have to do with the front audio. if you have a proper front audio connector, and plug in headphones, i think it disables the rear output, kinda like the jack on your stereo. THe jumpers are there to feed the signal into the rear audio....i think someone can correct me if i'm wrong

      You have your audio channels hooked up backwards if your removed the jumper for the right channel and the left channel died.

      The jumper you removed connects the R audio signal to the rear panel audio connector (one on the motherboard). When you fit front panel audio connectors, this is shorted until you plug something in, at which point a switch in the socket breaks the connection. This prevents you connecting front and back panel cables at the same time.

      It made me giggle a bit at hearing you removing an "innocent" jumper. Did you think they put them there for no reason? Reminds me of the "doctor it hurts when I do this. Well don't do that then...!"

          Yeh when I was looking down at the jumper i was like "mannn, thats GOTTA be there for a reason" but i just couldnt figure out why...

          Think there is such a thing as an 'innocent' jumper? I'm on a mission to find one.. I'll be damned to have to go buy one.

          Okay i didnt realize a front panel connector would short the pins.. now it all makes sense. thank you.
