  • Interesting keypad/gamepad combo

    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...%2EingTools%2F

Do you think this would work well to control CobraIII? It has 10 buttons. Looks like it is very ergonomic. I am trying to find an alternative to a custom keyboard or IRMAN. I find having to pick up a remote control distracting. I'd like to have something hard mounted near my parking brake that I can access while in a normal driving position. I wonder how big this thing actually is. Maybe I'll stop by best buy and get one. They have it for $29.99.

Wait, I just realized it is meant to be used by the left hand. Im right handed. Might not work..

Hehe, reminds of that Aerosmith video with that chick from Clueless.

Anyways that thing would rock if it were adaptable for the right hand!

Even though it's shown with a model using his left hand it looks like it might work for either or.

That would also look bad *** in my black interior with red lights!

Man, the more and more I look at it, the more I WANT IT! I wish it were wireless! Damn...

Here's a good review of. Though it focuses on gaming, it shows you the software for it. You can program those keys to be any key you want! It looks damn cool.

What is all this left/right handed bs?

Notice, in the very same review spoken of before in this thread, it says that there is 'no left handed model available'. Wouldn't this imply that the ones that exist are 'right handed'? I'm confused a bit by this considering the picture clearly shows a left hand using the controller, but then I have occasionally used the 'mirror' function in graphics programs myself.

      Jeffrey.

      Pros:
Form-fitting packaging lets you “try” before you buy.
      Sleek design
      Adjustable for small hands
      Extremely easy installation
Intuitive mapping software with macro support
Shift states which quadruple the number of possible mappings
Shift States may be toggled or momentary
      Importable/Exportable Profiles.
      Self-Loading profiles, per-game association.
      Absolutely rocks for FPS games
      Cons:
      No left-handed model available (-10%)
Shift States require up to three of the ten keys be dedicated for that purpose (-5%)
Macros don’t allow simultaneous keypresses, or proper editing (-3%)
      Absolutely useless throttle control (-3%)
Gamepad turned 90 degrees clockwise, although easily fixed via mapping (-1%)
Hand tends to block LED visibility, even if they are super-bright. (-1%)

I think they mean no left handed model available because if you are right handed, you use the mouse with your right hand and the keypad with your left hand. That is the way the keypad is designed using your thumb to control the gamepad and throttle. Now, if you are left handed, you use the mouse with your left hand and the keypad with your right. It would be a little tricky to use the gamepad and throttle with your pinky finger!

Went to Best (worst) Buy today. Of course they don't stock that in the store. So I decided to get a small numeric keypad for laptops instead. Only one they had was a $60 targus one. So I stopped by Circuit City and got a $20 ultra small keypad. Here it is:

That's not bad, but I'm still not keen on the idea of just plopping down computer parts in visiable veiw. Unless of coarse they look bad-*** (in my opinion) and compliment the interior well. Oh well, the search goes on.

lol. I was curious as to what the new device was, until I went to the link.

It's a Nostromo n50. I have one of these sitting 1 foot from my hand. =)

If you've got questions let me know..

I use it for playing my minstrel in Dark Age of Camelot mostly.

Got it cheap. about $22, $28 shipped.

BTW.. it's made for right handed people, which means that it's a left handed device! You're expected to use the mouse in the right hand and the nostromo in the left hand. It's a replacement for your keyboard for gaming.

There's no version for left handed people (i.e. fits in the right hand). That means that in a car in America/Canada (driver on the left), the directional pad will be inconvenient to use with your right hand..

I have been using one in my truck for the last few months.
It works great for C3, I use it with my right hand, the buttons fit my hand great and I just use the D pad with my index finger.

                    One problem;
The software will not install on a computer with less than 800x600 Res. I had to put an Ext. monitor in my truck to load the software.

Let me know if you have any other question, or pictures.

Awesome. Delorme Street Atlas is fussy about resolution too. I just made the "desktop" area 800x600, but the res. was still technically 640x480. Works fine.

The software runs fine at 640x480 just needed 800x600 to install.
Great idea about the desktop, I had not thought of that
