I have been reading about carputers for a while and feel that I am ready to take the plunge. This is the hardware I am looking at.
Xenarc Screen @250 ebay possibly used
    Auto Tap ATU $199
Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 with GPS Locator - Windows $130
GIGABYTE GA-945GM-S2 Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 945G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard $95
    Crucial Technology 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - OEM $75
    Intel Pentium D 820 Smithfield 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
    KINGWIN TD-9225C 92mm Ball P4 Copper CPU Cooler $21
    HITACHI Travelstar E7K100 HTE721080G9AT00 (0A26613) 80GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache ATA-6 Notebook Hard Drive $111.99
    Any IDE DVD Player $30
    DS-ATX 220W $170
    Wide Angle Camera $130

I am worried about the DVD and vibrations, Also i have no picked out any software. I will not be building a case. I realize this is a lotta power but i don't feel the small price difference is worth going with a less powerful computer. I am installing in an 03 I35. Will i need another battery or a better alternator or will stock work fine

Are you sure that the DSATX can handle a Pentium D? I know they are pretty power hungry. Or do you mean Core Duo?

Seems overkill, but if that's what you're going for good for you. I am a little concerned about the power though.

Also I use M$ S&T and I love it. Many people however hate it for many reasons. It has small checkboxes and such, so not touchscreen friendly. Also when giving you driving guidance, it just says "Turn Left in 0.2 miles", not "Turn Left in .02 miles onto Bakalakadaka Street". So you sort of have to know where you are with respect to the GPS and actual streets to tell when to turn. I don't mind, but those are the prevelant opinions.
