  • LCD monitor for home use?

My company just bought me two 19" Viewsonic VP930b displays. As they only display 1280x1024, I was skeptical about their value coming off a 19" Monitor at 1600x1280. After two days, I was hooked! Those things are awesome! I think it's the lack of flicker that sold me.

I bought a $1200 Sony G500 a few years ago for my home setup and after those LCD's, I can't stand this thing. Res is phenominal - 1920x1440 (I like small text), but even at 85Hz, the flicker hurts.

I'm willing to take the hit in resolution if I get a couple of LCD's for home use, but I'm really concerned about video game play. Is slow pixel refresh really that much of a concern? Is there any way I can test a video game on my work monitors without being fired? (winamp vis, perhaps?)

Do any of you have one (or two) high-end LCD's which are acceptable at FPS type games? Money is no conern. (it is, but I'm not going to ditch my Sony for a crappy display)

Anything below 10ms latency will be fine for gaming, and the newer 6ms LCDs should be great.

Play a good quality vid with a fair bit of action and you'll get a good idea on how well they'll handle gaming.

As far as I can tell (I read the article on TomsHardware), ms are no longer a useful criteria... But I might be able to get away with playing a movie... I can chop one of my movies up to fit on a flash drive and try it after hours....

      Thanks!

Let me simplify my question (for those who are clicking through new threads...)
Please post if you have an LCD monitor on your home computer.
        Make/Model
Do you do any FPS gaming?
        Which game?
        Do you see ghosting?

Maybe MP3 car isn't the best place to ask.

I have a dell 2001fpw or whatever it is called. I do play FPS and yes there can be a bit of ghosting sometimes, but I don't find it distracting or intolerable.

          As far as the game
          Urban Terror mainly.
