  • Laptop tv-out problem. Not filling screen sometimes

I have a Toshiba 7020CT laptop with dvd docking station that has a tv-out port. Here's the problem:

When I switch the display to use the tv-out port and bring it into any ntsc analog display it doesn't fill the screen while showing windows desktop and various applications.

However, If I run a DVD and output the DVD picture to the tv-out port, it fills the screen. What's the deal with this? Why would it fill on one and not the other?

I have read the posts on people dealing with this prob and all I was able to find were some people that found overscan utlities for Nvidia and ATI video cards. Anyone know of a universal overscan utility or better yet a fix or reason as to why my laptop fills the screen on dvd but not on anything else?

This is annoying the hell out of me. I only have a 5.6" lcd for now and losing that huge border makes it about a 4" lcd...not acceptable.

I have the same issue with my Geforce 2MX card when on TV out to the 5.6" screen that I have for the car.

The A Open forum suggests trying this:

I've heard of it, but I'm not sure how it works exactly...

Otherwise there seems to be little support from Nvidia in relation to their drivers.

Yeah C4M, I am using tvtool 5.5 at the moment with my Geforce 2 MX in my soon-to-be new mp3car system.

I found that after running the tvtool program that the screen extended to the very edges (maybe a bit too much with a tad of overscan, but better than underscan ) its a great little program.

I have my mp3car application run it on its startup (I have my mp3car app as the windows shell). I run it like thus...

      tvtool /tv /640 /pal /close

that runs it with tv mode, 640X480 (I only have a 320X240 TFT so anymore is overkill!), PAL video and the close option means that the tvtool dialog box doesnt come up.... it just runs, does what its told and exits.

      definately a must....
      Project - GAME OVER :(

That TV Tool only works with nvidia chipsets unfortunately. So...that didn't work for me. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Try searching for powerstrip. I have heard it thrown round a few times in here and it is supposed to be good. However, I am happily using tvtool with my geforce so I can't really help too much
