  • usb car charger?

    Has anyone done this? i wanna put a usb port in the dash of one of my cars just my cellphone charger and ipod charger only. Let me know if you guys have done this or have any ideas. Thanks!

    I haven't personally seen it done, because most of us who put USB ports in the dash put real, working USB ports in, not just power jacks

    It wouldn't be hard at all, a 5v point-of-load regulator is all you would need, and would have enough power for multiple USB ports without issue:

    Alternatively, you could do it much cheaper with a linear regulator like the 7805, but you'd need to make sure to heatsink it. Heatsinking it to the chassis should be more than good enough to supply 500mA to a USB port.

      Try one like this:

      You could install permanently if desired or just plug in when needed.

        Thanks for the info. i have a ipod charger...but dont wanna rip into that because its nice to be portable.
